vr stimulator bowling grippo for schoolproject
Help
I'm a student in Belgium building a megajolt testbench for a schoolproject (see testbench schoolproject topic)
Everything went perfect, untill I got the idea to build the grippo VR stimilutor.
I can't program the 908QT4 processor with my freescale motorola demoboard.
Apparantly the code on the grippo site needs to be modified for the freescale board.A guy named Tim Skwiot (http://www.hbci.com/~tskwiot/2002_MSII.html) has done this.
Please ,has someone the modified software to program the freescale 908qt4 demoboard?
I'm using the standard codewarrior programming soft.
I have tried for weeks without succes.
I suppose I'm not clever enough for this kind of stuff.
Please .I need to demonstrate the project on a school happening in 2 weeks time
Thanks

Hello,
You may want to look at the VRSSIM project- this simulates the 36-1 signal using a PC parallel port. It appears to be very easy to use.

Hi Brent
I tried the vrssim and yes this works fine.
The problem is that I need a computer extra to generate the signal.
I already need two computers for the display.
One to run the megajolt software and a second to run a cut down version of the deutz engine screensaver so that people now how a engine works on the inside.
I just hope that someone on the forum has modified the grippo soft.
I tried the Email for Tim Skwiot but didn't get a reply yet.

In attachment a picture of the board I'm using to program the grippo vr simulator.
Any one out there who has a valid Email adress for Tim Skwiot ?
Is there anyone else who can program a MC68HC-908QT4 from motorola with the grippo code.
Please
Bruno

When you load the original VR-Stimulator onto this board, what problems do you have? The stimulator has one input- the speed control, plus one output, simulating the trigger wheel sensor. Since there are only 8 pins on the QT4 device, it should be straightforward to compare the original schematic against what is on the board you have. you may need to modify the board slightly to achieve your goal.
Perhaps while you work on this you can get a laptop ready running the VR Simulator software as a backup? Or use the drill or a different motor to drive a real wheel. I'm sure people will like seeing the spinning wheel! In any case, it seems that you have a few good options, so your school project should be a success!

I got the message that the code isn't valid for the 908qt4.
I even asked a friend who does this kind of stuff as a research engineer and he got the same problem.
I only use the demo board for programming.I have another pcb on which I put the ic after programming.
The reason why I also want a vr simulator is safety.
I d'ont want to spin the toothed wheel all the time on the open school day while there are to many people around or even little children.
I found this Tim Skwiot on the megasquirt forum and have send him a PM.
At least he has the board working.

Good idea
However the perspex has to be very strong since the toothedwheel is spinning at +-6000rpm.

While looking for the correct soft for my freescale board I stumbled on a soundfile that generates the toothed wheel and is adjustable between a few hundred rpm and 20000 rpm.

This is a lot easier than the freescale simulator board with grippo code.
However I'm not going for the easy option yet.

I built a programmer for the megajolt 16 pin microcontroller and modified it to program the 8 pin Ic for the test rig by adding an extra socket. The programming software I used was by Pand E microsystems and is Prog08sz flash programmer.I think this would probably work with the freescale demo board as my programmer design was based on that.

Paul.
Yes i just downloaded the file and programmed it using the P&E programming software, my programmer is just a basic unit based on the design on the freescale site.

Did you use the grippo code without modification for the vr simulator ?
I'm using codewarrior as included in the demo package from freescale.

I had a look at the site and registered so that I can download the file
The software looks a bit like the codewarior soft.
It looks very straighforward from the example that they give on the website .
I will be installing the soft a soon as possible.
Thank you for the info.
I let you know how I get along.
