What system/setup should I use? New to this im afraid!

Post by Goliath »

Hi, im new to aftermarket engine management so need some advice!

I am rebuilding a 1.9 engine from a 205 GTI with low comp pistons and a t28 turbo. I have no idea what management to use tough, I was thinking using megajolt or megasquirt but dont know the advantages of either system and whether i should use MAP or TPS? Also I dont know what other components I would need to use, basically i need educating :P

Any help greatly appreciated :)

Cheers
George

Welcome!

Presumable you're running fuel injection rather than carbs?

You need control of fuel and sparks - you can either do it with a Megasquirt for both (bit complex IMHO) or a MS for fuel and a MJLJ for sparks, which is quite a common setup. MJLJ only does the sparks but is considerably more functional (and proven) than the hoops you have to jump through to get MS to do fuel and sparks.

For a turbo you would be best with a MAP version so that you can control sparks (and fuel) closely under boost conditions.

Have a good read of the How To sections (see the big link at the top of this page), and try a few searches of forum posts for suitable terms (although you're the first post with t28 in it!) and then come back with any specific questions.....
