lost putputs

Post by simon 16i »

i only use one of the outputs on my mjlj, this was output 2, for some reason last week this has now stopped working, also at the same time the rev counter has developed a very irratic reading, above 2500rpm all is fine but below even though engine idle is spot on the rev counter is bouncing about from 1000-2000rpm, this could be pure coincidence or maybe just the rev counter itself but thought it was worth mentioning, i have now swapped from output 2 to 4 and was all set to change the output revs when the laptop decided it will no longer communicate with the mjlj, this has been attempted in car and on the bench with a 12v battery, car still drives perfectly up to 6000rpm so im guessing the njlj is still working but just wondered coumd the output faliure be one component?
i bought the unit pre assembled as have limited soldering experience and wanted a reliable unit

thanks in advance

Hi Simon,

I take this is on a V3 controller, correct?

Did the user-defined output stop working exactly at the same time the erratic rev-counter started occuring?

How is the rev-counter wired into the system- are you using TACH_OUT on the MJLJ, the diode circuit, or are you tapping into the PIP signal of the EDIS module?

I would double check the wiring between the EDIS module and the MJLJ- specifically the PIP and SAW line. then check and re-fasten the ground connection of the EDIS module and MJLJ.

Regarding communication issues- what error are you seeing in the config software (message at bottom of the config software window)?

Are you able to put a timing light on the engine to verify the MJLJ is controlling advance?

yes v3, im using the tach output to control the rev counter and yes both faults seemed to happen at the same time or certainly very close together, ill check with a timing light tomorrow to see whats happening, i did still have communication with teh laptop for about a week after the faults started though, i did check all connection but will re check just to be sure, getting the copuld not open port message so could be the lead im guessing although its been fine up till now

Hi Simon,

The "could not open port" message means the COM port number is either wrong, or it's in use by another program. The fastest way to to identify the correct COM port number is under Windows Device Manager.

Since you're feeding the rev counter with the TACH_OUT line, it seems there might be noise on the PIP line coming from the EDIS module. Once you get the configuration software communicating you may see a similar effect on the RPM gauge in the software.

Keep us posted,
