so far so good

Post by philbert »

just had my motor running in limp home mode.
not bad for a first timer!
it starts on the button and ticks over very roughly but as the timing is at least 7 deg out im pretty impressed !
hope to get the mjlj wired up this week cant wait :D

Well done! It's a great feeling of achievement when the engine first fires and runs, even in limp-home mode. I managed to get mine almost spot on the ten degrees mark and was amazed at how well the engine ran with fixed timing. The biggest differences with mine though, were the smoothness of the tickover and the reliability of starting. Priceless when compared to the lumpy, missing and popping effort of before. :)

Just out of interest - which way out is the timing?

the timing should be 3 deg btdc so im 7 deg out maybe more as i havent strobed it yet.
starting is instant and no choke required .
the tickover is lumpy but the engine doesnt miss or pop as it did before!
all in im well chuffed so far :D
