Hi all
Just had a shot at writing a map to match the timing figures i was given for my engine.
could someone more knowledgeable look it it over and let me know if i'm going in the right direction please.
its a2.25 petrol landrover with a high torque conversion.

While driving, what areas of the map seem to not work well?

The other map seems to be for a V8 as well.
You might want to make the tuning operation a 2 person affair- one driving and the other bumping the regions of the map up or down. Try using the 3D tuning tool- this was designed to ease on-the-fly tuning.

One more thing, are you confident the static timing (EDIS only) is fixed at 10 degrees BTDC?

I guess I'm not really the one to be giving the advice as my own 'jolt is still being soldered !! ( Geoff off of the Series 2 club )
but I've been looking at your map and had a compare with maddocks map for his Landrover 2.25......
There does seem to be some fair bit of difference between the two especially within the early ranges and his also tops out higher too.
Yours looks like it is inducing a flat spot mid range to me ?

I thought it might be worth a try downloading his map to give a try of and compare it to your own on the road so to speak.

In my opinion, you have WAY too much advance there... certainly for a starting map... you say you have to back off to get the revs up, that could be because the engine is pinking away and not producing any power! Without being rude, do you know what pinking / pre-ignition is? If not or if you're not sure you'd recognise it, go very careful here as you could be melting your pistons by the second!
I would try something with around 30 deg max advance under load to start off with... and no more than 34 at a normal driving range of about 65kpa.

i did ask for help to create a map but the silence was deafening.
i used the figures i was given perhaps I have got my sums wrong never mind i will try again.
Phil, I understand you are looking for help, but it has only been 4 days since your first post. Some of us only check once or twice a week on here, and a lot of us have zero experience with your motor. Not to rank on you at all, I know how it feels to not know the answer and to NEED help finding it.
You probably don't want to add any more advance after the engine's torque peak, whatever rpm that is. I actually retard 4 degrees per thousand rpm 1000 rpm above my torque peak. You may want to dial back the advance under part load to under 40 degrees, I don't think any motor likes 50 degrees of advance, even at high rpm. My max advance under full load ends up at 32-33 degrees(I program 30, but I was about 2.5 degrees off in placement of my trigger wheel). My max part-load is 38.5 or less. This is a type1 aircooled VW based engine, 2.2 liter and 180 hp. Doesn't have much in common with yours, but I hope the general stuff helps.
