trigger wheel/sensor.

Post by boldy205 »

Hi, i realise this may sound stuid, and i have done it before, just cant remember how to now! I am installing a MJLJ on to a 306 GTi6 engine, (4 cylinder). My problem is that in the instalation guide in this site, it quotes that: "With angine at TDC on cylinder 1, the sensor should be mounted 90 degrees AFTER missing tooth", but the diagram shows the sensor 90 degrees BEFORE the missing tooth. Now am i being stupid or do the two things contradict each other?
Many thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt

How's it going with the new motor?

I think they're both correct :D

- If nothing is moving, the sensor is 90 degrees before the missing tooth.

- If the engine is rotating, the sensor is at the tooth that is 90 degrees after the missing tooth has gone past.

I find the diagram easier to follow.

If you get it wrong, all you will get is the sparks 180 degrees out from where they should be and all you then need to do is swap the coil primaries (pins 10 and 12) over

Cheers
Martin

Oh boy... define "After" :?

I agree with Matt, it is confusing. The sensor installation is often a mind-bender for people, and somewhat hard to describe in words.

I updated the text in an attempt to clarify the process. Please provide some feedback for clarity - and accuracy!

I also added a more 'cookbook' procedure for making the alignment more fool-proof.

That's by far the easiest way to work it out, and clearly worded.
It takes into account all variables, ansd irrespective of EDIS4, 6 or 8.
