I'm sorry if this has been covered before but after searching posts i still have no solution.I have a V3 megajolt bought on ebay. All is wired up and ready.Next bought usb to serial lead downloaded prolific drivers, computer said found and installed. When i opened config software and loaded correct com port(3) and settings got timeout data message. The laptop uses vista so i dragged desktop pc out of house into garrage connected serial to serial port but in device manager could not locate new device or new open port. The desktop uses xp.Does it matter what config software version i use.How do i know what firmware i have if i cant connect to pc.I am quickly running out of idea's.I will gladly try all advice given if not already done.
Cheers

I had a similar problem. Have you got any printer or phone software on your computer?? I found deleting these solved the problem. Hope this helps

Nick,
Since it's your first time running it, another way to verify the unit is basically 'alive' is to verify it's controlling/adjusting ignition advance on a running engine. If you can quickly verify this, then you can confidently focus on just the serial communications between your PC and the MJLJ.
If you see the timing fixed at 10 degrees regardless of RPM, check to make sure connections to the unit are good (power, ground, PIP, SAW) and that it is properly receiving power when ignition is "on".
Regards,

Hi Nick,
here are the firmware install instructions.
http://www.autosportlabs.net/3.1.0-2.7.0_upgrade_guide
Make sure you know which hardware version you're running- this is covered in the first steps.
Assuming you're running V3 hardware, the firmware image you need to download is version 3.2.1.

Regards,
i found the link and followed the instructions, but after i entered cmd it comes up with c:\documents and settings\dad> so i moved the driver 3.2.1 update to here and typed in what you said on your firmware install page with the correct port(1).Nothing happens so then i pressed enter and the computer would not have it.I didn't get chance to switch on MJLJ.

hi Nick,
The instructions has you download two files. One file is the program that writes the firmware image to your MJLJ; the other is the firmware image itself.
Ensure they are in the same location on your hard drive - in your case, c:\documents and settings\dad> .
These are the two files that must be in that location:
hc08sprg.exe
mjlJunior_V3.2.1.s19
Once you've verified that, you can follow the steps to perform the actual firmware upgrade:

Let us know how it works out!

All sorted cheers Brent.
I did not realise on the HOW TO section that the driver install exe was needed. All is well now still can't get my laptop to connect.I bought a cheap usb -seial lead off ebay and i dont think running windows vista helps.i loaded prolific driver(vista) but no joy.Thats why i dragged home pc out to garage in the end with serial -serial cable, that worked fine.Got a great map off TIGER owners forum and had no problem uploading to mjl.I've calibrated tps now so will roling road the car soon.
Many Thanks
