do i need tps or map ?

Post by mikee »

i ordered some bike carbs to fit my 1800 zetec, and asked if there would be a tps ..the guy said yes . when i received them there was no tps. He says i don't need tps or map...... is this right ???? if not i'll have to rig something up ,maybe off the throttle pedal...... any ideas ....--- mikee

The ability to adjust ignition advance based on engine load- measured by manifold pressure or throttle position - is an important part of realizing your engine's full potential, and to get the most out of your ignition system.

do the bike carbs have a spot for a TPS, but in your case it's missing?

On the subject of MAP or TPS: With multiple throttle bodies, A TPS is the simplest to connect, but using a MAP sensor is possible. See:

What bike were they from?

R1 etc bike carbs should have a TPS fitted (or it might have been removed before sale I suppose).

Bike carbs, with a TPS, on a Zetec 1800 go very nicely!

I wouldn't bother with even thinking about a MAP setup - much too complex when the TPS route should be so easy
