Tacho and fuel pump

Post by slayer00 »

If I install a megajolt into my mk2 golf will the tacho and fuel pump still work? On the factory setup it is taken of the -ve side of the coil

As per my other post, I see no reason why using one of the programmable outputs on the MJLJ ECU won't work - the -'ve side of the coil is basically shown ground every ignition event, so connecting to the ECU and setting the output to close at a very low speed should work. The only issue I can see is that it might not close while the engine's cranking (i.e. probably less than 500rpm, thus the ECU thinks the engine's not turning at all), so fitting a momentary push-to-close button would solve the problem - just push the button while you start the engine (and if you fit it out of sight it becomes a handy immobiliser.
I don't see any reason why the Tacho won't work, as it's meant for electronic ignition so connecting to the ECU or tach out on the EDIS will show the correct signal.

Just a thought toward another option - does the ECU basically pull tach out the pin to ground per ignition event? In which case simply connecting a tachymetric relay to the tach output will "fool" the relay into thinking the coil's still there?

If you can get the Megajolt to rpm trigger an output, then an additional relay can also be triggered during start only to get the pump running.
