Unable to get spark

Post by redkcspit »

Trying to install V3.1.0 system on a triump spitfire 1500, here is where I am at;

1) All components installed, wired, no start w/only EDIS unit, removed plugs and placed on block, still no spark
2) Checked for 12 v voltage at coil, OK
3) Switched VR sensor polarity, still no spark
4) Disconnected VR sensor and plugged in my MP3 player using a simulated VR sensor output and I got a spark with plugs removed. Plugged in MJLT unit and got a correct tach reading (as long as my MP3 player did not switch to a different song of course).
5) Plugged my VR sensor back in and again no spark, switched polarity and no spark again.

I then verified that the VR sensor was putting out a signal by hooking up my voltmeter to the terminals and using the AC voltage reading noted that there was voltage generated when the crankshaft was spun.

Before I replace my VR sensor is there ant other ideas why I don't get a spark?

So in a nutshell, the simulated output on the MP3 player drives the EDIS but your VR sensor does not.

Set your voltmeter to AC and note the voltage level on the VR sensor.

Then, try to adjust the volume on your MP3 player to match that same AC voltage. Do you still get a spark?

If not, then perhaps the signal from the VR sensor is not strong enough to drive the input on the EDIS. How far away is the sensor from the wheel? What type of sensor wheel are you using?
