hi everone,
went out for a drive last night, i have been tweaking the base map to try and get in the ball park ready for a rolling road session, i had been experiencing some backfiring and bogging down at high rpm in 3rd and 4th gear, and some tweaking was improving matters, however on my way home it started to back fire again badly, i could hear it backfiring through the carb pretty badly, so i pulled over and it cut out.
now i cant start it up again! i have put new plugs in (the old ones were fine, perhaps a little bit black but nothing major)
new plugs made no difference, i have checked and i am getting sparks.
all i get when i turn it over now is lots and lots of backfiring through the carb and nothing else. i tried swapping the leads over just in case they somehow got swapped (getting desperate here lol) but its just the same.
i am not sure if this is a mjlj/ edis issue, an issue with timing or wether the carb is dead.
i cant believe my car has been back on the road for 5 days and its dead already
any ideas anyone?
Dan

i was thinking the same, head gasket blown between 2 + 3 common on big bore minis, trust me! had it happen to myself a fair few times! the head gasket doesnt take too well to high loads when the timing and fuelling is wrong, im told it causes hotspots and the weakest part is the gasket so it blows thru especially with such a little gap between them!
