Two questions - trigger offset and tach to bin disparity

Post by mikekoch »

Did some searching but didn't find what I need, hope I didn't overlook the answers...

First, I managed to incorrectly time my trigger wheel by 10deg. You might guess how I did that. Does MJLJ have a provision for trigger offset as Megasquirt does? This could save me the time it would take to make a new bracket.

Second, RPMs are correctly reported by the software tach, but the corresponding bin is not being read. This afternoon I noted that the active bin cell was approximately half of the actual RPM. 2500 and 3200 RPM are two bin steps, so at 3000 rpm I should see the 2500 step lit, but instead I might see 1100, two full bin steps away. What is going on here?

Thanks

Mike

I would fabricate a new bracket so that if you ever do have to rely on it (heaven forbid!!) then the 'limp home' mode will function.
For that EDIS has to see the VRS signal (or more specifically the missing tooth) at the correct timing point referenced to the crankshaft.

Might be able to redrill the existing bracket

I was having that very same thought this morning. I think I might have enough room on the bracket to move the sensor down a tooth and it wouldn't take very long. I'm trying desperately to get my car ready to take to show at the Portland Historics this weekend. So far it's not looking good.

Anyone have insight on my second question? I'm set up for MAP by the way.

Thanks
Mike

The MJLJ doesn't provide a trigger point offset adjustment. Part of the reason was simplicity, the other part was due to the nature of the EDIS module.

For the RPM - how many cylinders are you running? It sounds like the configuration PC software is out of synch with what the controller is processing. If you've changed the number of cylinders make sure the values are updated and flashed to the controller.

Running 4 cylinders

UPDATE: re-rechecked the trigger wheel position and found that it is actually correct within 1 or 2 degrees. SO... rebuilt the config from scratch and burned it to flash, now everything works fine. Thanks for the suggestions.

Mike

This occurred to me as well, but wouldn't that mean the tach would be off also? I've double-checked the config and burned it to the controller a few times. It's almost as though the two parts of the configurator/tuner software are getting RPM via two different interpretations of the incoming tach signal.
