Contecting my Megajolt lite JR to my laptop

Post by Tomf »

Sorry if this sounds very stupid but i cant work out how to connect the megajolt unit to my laptop. I have wired in a 9v supply and earthed that to the other side of the battery then i plugged the cable in to my laptop that joins the 9 pin connector on the magajolt unit.

My laptop then says new software found, then it tried to install something but it says it cant do it.

Have i missed something?

Please help asap.

Cheers

TOM

Hi Tom,

Based on your description it appears you may need to still install the drivers for your USB->Serial adapter. Normally the adapter comes with a CD containing drivers and software; be sure you have this installed correctly.

Next; you will need to identify what COM port windows assigned your USB->Serial adapter. With it plugged into your computer, go into Windows Device Manager and look down the list of devices, and expand the 'Ports' item. You should see what COM port windows assigned your adapter.

So once you know the COM port you can set this in the MJLJ configuration software by accessing the Tools/Configurator options window.

Providing your MJLJ is powered up, you should be able to communicate with the unit- retrieve / load ignition maps, etc.

let us know how you work out!

Thank you very much for your reply, things make alot more sence now :D

Yes i did get a CD with the cable but i was unsure which application to install because when i open the CD it just comes up with 12 different folders, the titles of each foler are:

Card Reader
HDD ENCLOSURE
JM Driver
MHDB225 DVIVER
PCI CARD
pl2506
U Disk
USB CARD READER
USB Interface Link
USB Move Box
USB TO IDE
X Driver

Should i just try and install all of them and see if it will work or do you have any idea which one i should be installing?

Thanks again for your help
