help needed mjlj not comunicating with laptop

Can anyone help i purchased an assembled megajolt jr from brent back in april 2006, but i have only just got round to instaling it.

I am trying to connect it to my laptop to mjlj (whilst it is powered with a 9v battery)
I have and acer laptop running windows XP,
i have instaled the config software onto my laptop which runs,
i have fitted a USB to rs232 adaptor and loaded the driver software(device manager says its running).
The rs232 was set to com port 11 (but the config software only goes to 10)
I changed it to com 2 (as this was the only one free)
but all i get is the timeout waiting error

Can anyone point me in the right direction

(good with cars, but not so good with computers)

Hello,

Which version of the configuration software are you running? The latest 3.2.1 software included a number of fixes for USB->Serial adapters.

Note, in order to run the latest 3.2.1 software means you will also need the latest firmware on the unit. Your unit may have older firmware.
