Teething problems...

I managed to get my engine running for the first time today, but it wouldn't take any load without stalling. Its a c20xe with R1 carbs, r1 fuel pump and MegaJolt. Could it be because the engine is running too lean? It would just about idle with the choke pulled right out, but would stall if you tried to accelerate anything more than about 5% on the TPS graph...

There's a simple way to check, for running lean.

Get a can of carb cleaner with a straw attached to the nozzle. Start the engine, squirt some of the carb cleaner into the engine. Not a lot, just a quick squirt. If the engine smooths out and the RPM's go up. it's running lean.

Load a centrifugal only map, or disconnect your tps from the carb(leave it plugged in). That way you can isolate the advance change using TPS.

Good tips. Agree with Danny- simplify and isolate the problem- you can even unplug the MJLJ and have the engine run on EDIS alone, where it's fixed at 10 degrees BTDC.
