Intermittent Failure

Post by 910esprit »

Can anyone through some light on this??

After fitting MLlt I had a complete failure after extended high speed running, everything was running well when a sudden lose of ignition happened, i converted back to the original setup and carried on my way, this unfortunately damaged the tacho output as reconnecting the standard coil sent the voltage up the wrong way...

Having fixed this the MJlt has worked faultlessly for about 400 miles, then today i went on a run, and the first 100ish miles no problem high and low speed running,
after lunch i headed back and after about 10miles of slow speed running i suffered a complete failure of the ignition again.

I pluged the laptop in (the only tool i had with me) and could not comunicate with the MJlt. Unfortunately i could not test the live feed as i did not have a meter, i swopped back the origional system (remembering to disconnect the tacho drive) and drove the last 90miles home. Parked the car up and left it, I have just gone out to the car and the laptop communicated fine.

I now suspect the 12v feed as this feeds the MJlt and the EDIS module.

My thinking is that it should have reverted to limp home if the MJlt shut down, would this be correct? or would the MJLT need to be unplugged completely? (unfortunately i couldn't try this as it would have disconnected the rev limiter module (the revlimiter module is fitted in the MJlt case) hence no power to the coil.

Is there anything in the MJLT that may shut down temporally then start working again? i.e over heating or something.

With a total loss of ignition, you're probably correct in your assumption that power to the entire system was interrupted.

Have you started the engine on EDIS / MJLJ again? When you get it switched back over, check for faulty or intermittent power and ground connections for both the MJLJ and EDIS module.

The MJLJ draws very little current so it's doubtful there were any heat issues there.

Let us know what you find!

Yes i have connected everything back up and MJlt function correctly but just to be sure I re made all the solder joints for the power. They all looked ok.

I have also fitted and LED in the MJlt case to monitor power. (to check for power quickly at the side of the road).

I will let you know how i get on, it could take another 400miles :D
