TPS to MAP with V4..

Post by Quicksilver »

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the "MJLJ V3 MAP conversion kit" (http://www.autosportlabs.com/mjlj-conversion-p-45.html) would be compatible with the V4?

Regards,

Quicksilver.

No- it's specifically for the V3 kit, as it includes components appropriate for the V3 board- including through-hole resistors, capacitors, bulkhead fitting and a short length of vacuum hose.

Do you need to convert a V4 unit to MAP sensor operation?

If so, we have added the V4 equivalent MAP conversion kit to the online store:

If i bought a system currently used for MAP, what would i need to convert it to TPS. Other than the actuall TPS itself?

- Would that be a simular cost to converting from TPS to MAP, or can the V3/V4 megajolt always support TPS with MAP being an addition.

Also, how can you tell a V3 from a V4 and what are the performance/operational changes between them?

Hello,

The MAP sensor and TPS share the same input; so only one can be used at a time.

To convert from MAP to TPS you would need to disable / remove the MAP sensor. The easiest is to disable it by removing sensor by removing R4, right next to pin 1 of the sensor.

Here are the TPS components you need, located in a convenient box on the board: :)

We've also added it to our online store in case you wish to proceed with the conversion:

It's easy to distinguish a V4 from a V3. The V3 is physically larger with a smooth-surfaced case. The V4 looks like what is currently on the front page of our website.

The V4 adds an auxiliary input for reading an extra sensor, such as a temperature sensor for tuning warm-up advance. It's also more compact and rugged due to it's construction. For the primary feature of controlling ignition advance, they are identical.

I hope this helps,

Yes, sorry, i didnt mean to suggest it could do both.
- Ive just been looking at various second hand options as well as the kits, some of which are obvisouly MAP, others of which are TPS.
- I also currently dont exactly know which i want for my application (1.9 cvh on four sidedraugh dellorto 40's) but with currently unknown cam.

No worries- it was a reflexive response. :)

If you can get a stable vacuum reading, MAP sensing is generally considered to be superior as it more closely measures the actual load on the engine. However, TPS still works fine- if installed in this configuration you'll be completely happy!

A 2nd hand V3 or V4 would work great for you. Good luck!
