Coil packs
I have some GM coil packs in the garage. Will EDIS drive these or will it be necessary to find Ford coil packs?
Hi, The coil packs should
Hi,
The coil packs should work fine if the resistence of the primary and secondaries are within spec of the original ford module. I suspect that most are- I tested toyota and mitsubishi coil packs and they fell within range.
Now, what those values are I forgot. I will find out what that source is.

Re:coil packs
If anyone is interested, I have a new never installed "sat in a garage on the shelf" extra coil pack in the box. I won an auction on Ebay for 2 of them from a guy who was going to put both of these on his Mustang, but sold his car before he got around to it.
Since I have a four-cylinder this one's extra. It's a yellow and black "Accel" coil pack. It looks cooler than the Ford coil packs, and Accel claims it's a higher-energy coil pack. The best price I've seen on these is 54.00. I'll sell this one for 45.00 + 5.00 shipping.

hi, i am wondering if its posible to run the EDIS system with out the coil pack!! is it possible to use coil sticksin place of the coil pack?
i guess its a case of matching the values so it all fires correctly
thanks

Yes, you can pair individual
Yes, you can pair individual "coil on plug" type coils. They would have to have a similar resistance with two in parallel, to a single coil pack. If not, you would have to build a custom driver circuit to prevent overloading the EDIS. However, firing the coils every revolution would defeat the purpose of individual coils.

thanks!! but would the megaj
thanks!! but would the megajolt be better for this? oe would it be better if i built a phase sensor to switch the coils and fire one at a time!
yes i know that there wouldnt be any electrical advantage by using coil sticks with wasted spark, but you dont have a big pack to remove to get to the plenum!
(bear in mind im using the 24v cosworth engine)

Sorry, would the MegaJolt be better for what?
>"oe would it be better if i built a phase sensor to switch the coils and fire one at a time!"
That would be a huge amount of work, since you would have to sense cam position and still keep the dwell sorted out...
