Post by andyd »

Hu guys,

Just installed a jolt lite jnr on a mini and am curently trying to get it to run on edis only, Im getting a spark but the engine wont run, before I remove the wiring to check it is there any obvious items to check?

coil leads are 1 to 1 etc

many thanks,

first steps.

*the obvious, so pardon me: are you getting any fuel into the carbs?
*check the timing with a timing light
*check that coil A goes to no1 and no4 (assuming your firing order is 1342)
(*just thinking ahead.... if your timing light shows intermittent spark, then clip the sensor on the plug wire the other way around. some timing lights are sensitive to its orientation. we dont want you running off on a goose chase...)
*check that the other coil is actually firing eg with the timing light.
*check that the wire going to coil A, really is the coil A wire from the edis. or, just swap the two pairs of plug wires as a test.

thanks for that will check it out, there does not seem to be a spark now so plan to check the wiring as i used the diagrams supplied on the disc with the kit and reading on here they are not correct?

engine runs fine on the old dizzie so no problems there

as another aside its a 1mm airgap on the tdc sensor?

Ok gone back through my wiring as the sparks have stopped!

I found I had incorrectly wired the coil plug had only one side of the coil working, I have rewired it and now have nothing!

I have a spare edis module and coil pack and have tried these to no avail I have checked for power supply to each item, so the only thing I can think of is tdc sensor spacing or its wired back to front, strange it worked when it was wired wrong!

re the coil plug, check that there is power to the power wire, and that it goes to the centre terminal.

re the VR sensor, try swapping the wires on it the other way around. it has a +ve and a -ve connector, and it will only fire the EDIS the right way around.

ehh I think I found the problem,

My trigger wheel is notched at tdc! will be checking it later.

Ok reset trigger wheel with engine at TDC and gap next to sensor, swapped round the tdc sensor wires and now have a spark at both sides of the coil but engine fluffs and bangs, using the strobe at the pulley shows trigger wheel gap at TDC so where am I going wrong!

Ive run through the wiring again and am pretty sure its right......

Looks like you have the sensor wired with the correct polarity, but you may still have the trigger wheel mounted incorrectly- if you have the

Review the "simple" step-by-step approach to setting the trigger wheel / sensor alignment here:

If you are confident the alignment is correct, then you may have your coil packs wired backwards- swap the primary wires for coils 1 & 2 on the coil pack and test again.

Ah I think I still have the trigger wheel incorrect then as its currently set with the engine at tdc and the missing tooth looking at the sensor so I need to move it again.
