About to embark on a mini a-series conversion but i read somewhere that leaving the old dizzy in sheared the teeth on it possibly damaging the engine? Is this correct as i was going to use the old dizzy as a blanking plug until i get hold of one?
Does anyone know the correct size core plug to use as a a-series dizzy plug
many thanks

Leaving old dizzy in

Hi Danny,
It's probably my post that you read. It's not the dizzy itself that causes the problem, it's the separate shaft that connects the cam with the dizzy.

You could either leave the dizzy where it is or take it and the separate shaft out and plug the hole. A plug from MRA Minis is about £7 though I made my own. Personally if I were doing it again, I'd leave the dizzy in place until I was happy the MJLJ was up and running and then remove the gubbins and plug the hole. You'll really appreciate the extra space it frees up.

Hi Danny,
No probs, this is a link to the A series plug, the link in the first post is for A+. http://mra-minis.co.uk/product_info.php ... cts_id=110
Not sure if pics of my engine bay will help too much, 'cos it isn't a mini.

It's a bit of a mix. A+ block bored out to 1330cc and converted to 11 stud with Cooper 'S' pistons on A+ crank. Lots of porting and chamber shaping around MG Metro valves running off a Kent Megadyne 266 cam. It was built by Adrian Dodd and cost somewhere in the region of £2k.dannyb wrote:Nice midasIs that a MG Motor, what spec? Might have to steal the black mg rocker cover look!!!
Adrian details the work that goes into the head here. http://87.82.64.76/viewtopic.php?t=198 this is essentially the spec that mine is modified to.
The result will hopefully be a nice tractable engine that doesn't eat gearboxes, I've lived with cammy engines and straight cut gears in road cars before and not enjoyed the experience.
Getting paint to stick to the alloy rocker cover is a problem, I might end up having it Anodised because I like the black effect too.
