Just fitted new v4 power on light shows connect with computer using instore lead.Nothing it cant find it no matter how i try.Cant test for hyperterminal, because do not know what port i'm in on computer. It is not a laptop its a home pc,dragged into garrage.Do i need a driver with in store lead,i was running v3 configurator.Dont think that makes a difference.Would a rj45 to rj11 lead b better.

What do you mean by a instore lead? Does the cable have an RJ11 on one end and a DB9 serial connector on the other end or is it an RJ11->RJ11 lead that you are using with an RJ11->DB9 converter?
We've seen a couple of people recently see an RJ11 on the back of their PC and an RJ11 on the V4 Megajolt and have simply connected the two together. Unfortunately the RJ11 on their PC is for a modem and isn't a serial port at all!

Hi Nick,
From your description it sounds like you're having a problem identifying which COM ports your computer has.
See this part of the operation guide for checking your configured serial ports, by opening up Device Manager in windows:
http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V4_Op ... erial_Port
Device Manager should tell you what com ports you have installed- one of those should get you connected using the software.
Let us know if you make progress!

Hi Nick,
It looks like you are trying to plug the MJLJ into the RJ45 port of your computer as Chris suspected? That RJ45 port is actually a network port- you actually need to plug the MJLJ into an RS232 serial port available on your computer.
We sell a ready-made cable here:
http://www.autosportlabs.com/rj11-seria ... -p-43.html
However, you may be able to quickly build your own cable using a re-purposed telephone cord and DB9 connector from an electronics parts store:
http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V4_Op ... al_Adapter
If your computer does not have a built-in RS232 serial port, you will need an adapter. We have a guide for this here:
http://www.autosportlabs.net/USB-serial_adapters
We hope this helps and we apologise for the confusion!

Hi Nick. An RJ11->DB9 should work fine. If you have been using a v3 on your PC previously is it possible that you are using the V3 configurator rather than the latest V4 software?nicksuper6 wrote:I am using a rj11 to db9 converter. What do you use at trigger wheels.I'm based in uk.Thing is i'm fitting the v4 megajolt to a freinds car,i have a v3 what orks fine
If you can't get it figured out let us know an we can take a look at the ECU and/or the cable.

RJ11->DB9 adaptors are entirely passive devices, no drivers necessary. DB9->USB adaptors on the other hand do need drivers in most cases.
