Capacitor/condensor mounted on the coilpack

Post by xdawgedawg »

today, I was at the salvage yard... Picked up the coilpack and module... I got home, and started to clean it up, etc... What is the capacitor/condensor for??? It was mounted on the coilpack.

I know we don't use it with the megajolt, but it's for my own knowledge.

Thanks

Its a supressor and earths high frequency electrical noise. You can either ground it or emit it. Its definately not essential anyway.

would that noise interfere with the megajolt? or even worst, would it interfere with the radio? :D

thanks

Shouldn't do, but i wouldn't know as i don't have a radio in my car, just the sweet music of the engine is all i need, plus you just wouldn't hear it very well when driving

If it is a problem with the radio then fit it on. I believe most modern radios have some sort of interference suppression built in.

I forgot where it connected to. I still have my suppressor/capacitor. It may be an easy way for me to filter out my "glitch" in my 'Jolt setup.

Hi

On the packs I have it sits between the power lead and earth. I would think it is mainly to deal with radio interference issues, but also may prevent spikes back into the edis from back emf from the coils, although essentially it is across the battery and a battery is one hell of a spark quench.

That capacitor measured 0.25 ufd here. Probably a good quality cap, able to survive & help suppress some of the spikes in a vehicle system. Like microsecond 300V spikes from the starter. I'd say, its "good engineering practice" to keep it; Ford thought it was worth the cost. Bruce Roe
