Vista and configurator software

I still cannot get the configurator software to work with vista. (it works fine on my XP desktop)
There is no power in my garage so I need it on the laptop.
It says it cannot open com port but the data log from my port sniffer says otherwise.

I can see 8 bytes so with the first being 0C in hex I have 12 degrees of advance
When I tried the same thing on the Xp machine with the same serial adapter I get 9 bytes back.

Anybody out there who can help with Vista?
If not I am going to have to buy another hard disk and a copy of XP to put on it.

Finally got it working!
There is an updated driver for the PL-2303 on the Prolific website.

It was released in April so any body still having Vista problems should be able to get it working now.
