finnally starting to get a clue

Post by eds911915 »

looking for a good article/blog/how to, on edis-4 and coil on plug. i tryed wiring a single coil on plug (out of a 2010 mazda) jumped over from edis-4 connector pins 1&2 and VIOLA! i was getting a fat blue regular spark. oh man i got such a chubby when i saw that. but i still dont understand how or why? iv experimented with 4 differant edis-4 coil pack and 4 differant modules and differant ignition wires-plugs and all i get is week intermitant spark.

You're sure you are looking at the correct end of the EDIS plug? #1 and 3 are for the PIP & SAW signals that will go to the MJ. When using EDIS w/ MJ, #2 isn't for anything.

I'm only running a standard MJ setup, so I'm only guessing on the COP part but:
Pin 10 off the EDIS module would be wired to the triggering wire on both coil for cylinder #1 & #4
Similarly pin 12 from the EDIS module would be split to coils for cylinders 2 and 3.

From what I know about coils used for COP you will probably have 4 wires: trigger, 12v, probably 2 grounds, I'm referencing this page from the ms3 manual http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms3/ignition.html about two thirds down the page they show pin-outs for some GM coils

I tryed to split the 2 trigger wires 10&12 at edis4 module or 1&3 at the coil take your pick. Anyway ended up with the same weak intermitant spark.
