What happened to the XBee Pro 900

Post by MichaelDrost »

I found this: https://github.com/autosportlabs

It says
Design files for original / now defunct P2P telemetry based on XBee Pro 900 module
.

Being in the Netherlands/Holland/Europe, that kind of triggered me into raising my eyebows. Defunct? Why?

I'd love to hear why development has stopped and would really love to hear whether there's a chance development will resume!

Thank you very much in advance for any efforts you make (in replying or even resuming).

Hi, thanks for your interest!

The short version is:

Range is poor, both in dealing with line of sight obstructions and power output.
Cost is high. Especially when dealing with multiple repeaters on track.

We found that the cellular telemetry was much more robust, and cost effective for almost all use cases.

Firmware support is in place, but it hasn't been tested recently, so it may be unstable.
