Need help, I can't get the engine run :(

Post by Luca Lagonigro »

Ok, I had to stop the project for a while but now I'm on it again, yesterday I did my last failed attempt...

All I know it's now I have nice blue sparks on the plugs but no fun just backfires. The engine runs happy with it's distributor so a problem with the engine is out of the question.

I'm sure about the sensor, engine's TDC and missing tooth relationship.

I must have connected the plugs the the coils the wrong way.

Cna someone with a VW type 1 engine (or similar type 4 etc...) give me some directions on wich sparkplug leads to the right coil prong?

I'm frustrated!

Thanks

Luca

If this is a 1342 engine the leads for 1/4 on one side of the coil
and those for 3/2 on the other side.
When is doesn't start switch the leads from sides.
It should make some noise when you start but won't run.
Ones the engine runs check the labes on the coil if they are the same
as the cilinders. If not you switch the wires comming from the edis module (two wires one for eatch side of the coil).
Then your leads don't need to be relabeld.
I hope you find this understandeble.

Hi Ivan,the firing order

Post by Luca Lagonigro »

Hi Ivan,

the firing order it's 1-4-3-2 I guess I have to relabe a couple of cables in any case.

I understand from you comment that the coils are pared 1/4 and 3/2, so with my firing order i have to connect the plugs this way:

COIL CYL
1 --- 1
3 --- 4
4 --- 3
2 --- 2

Right?

Yes that should be right

Yes that should be right becaus in your case there is 1/3 and 4/2 instead of 1/4 and 3/2.

So you will have to relabel.

Good luck Ivan
