comunication problems (still!)

Post by danncus »

Hi Quick resume,

friend built board
I fitted edis4 VR and TPS to car and tested fine without ECU
I fitted ECU which went bang (no comms!)
found 10v on boad
turned round diode now 5v on board
fitted new KX8 from RS ( this i understand is like a blank hard drive) still no comms
I was then told my 9 pin lead was incorect (NULL type)
tried new lead still no comms
Fitted new MAX 232 chip still no comms.

i am now running out of things to check / change

any advice would be appreciated.

If you've fitted a blank

Post by Oliver Sedlacek »

If you've fitted a blank chip then you need to program it with the Megajolt firmware before you can talk to it. The programming program is a Freescale utility called hc08sprg.exe.

This is not quite

Post by brentp »

This is not quite correct.

hc08sprg.exe requires a 'boot loader' to be installed on the chip. Your blank chip does not have this bootloader installed on it.

If you want to order another chip I can get one out to you in a day or two.

Thanks,
Brent

There's a hardware

Post by brentp »

There's a hardware programmer that's used to get the bootloader installed. it's a seperate piece of hardware than the MJLJ board.

Once the bootloader is installed, the MJLJ board can handle uploading of new MJLJ firmware. Hence the moniker 'boot loader'.
