GPS latitude and longitude resolution

What's the resolution of the GPS latitude and longitude output? I'm seeing a lot of noise when I calculate direction from the change in latitude and longitude. Going in a straight line, I see a standard deviation in the direction of about 7 degrees with a 5Hz GPS update rate. That seems a bit high.
