Hi, I'm hoping someone out there can help me as I'm stumped!
Got engine running with EDIS at default 10deg ok and have one of the new V3 MJLJ built by Brent. Initially had lots of problems with Comms errors but now borrowed another laptop and PC talks to MJLJ. Having said that I do get the error message below.
Read buffer length not correct: was 127; expected 128
java.lang.IllegalStateException: Read buffer length not correct: was 127; expected 128

However by clicking OK the software runs and able to read/update config and view runtime BUT no advance seen on strobe - running 10deg default only.
Checked saw/pip wiring but not seeing saw output from MJLJ (digital voltmeter on 2V scale)
My logic is as follows:
Unlikely to be MJLJ hardware as it was built by Brent.
Can't be Comms problem as I can see the "live" runtime display.
PIP/SAW wires test out ok so not wiring.
From the forum others have had similar problems but not many solutions have been posted - can anyone please advise me? Does anyone know what a.c. voltage should be measured on saw output.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Keith
EDIS won't advance, buffer length error??

Sounds like you've only got
Sounds like you've only got the bootloader software on the ECU and not the actualy Megajolt firmware. See here on how to upload the firmware:

You can download the firmware and bootloader programming software here:

Error message gone but still no advance on strobe
Matt,
Thank you for your help, have loaded this and no more error messages. However, no matter what map I load the strobe still shows 10deg
Have looked more closely at voltage coming out of MJ on saw pin (using digital voltmeter on 2v a.c. scale) - measures approx 0.05v at tickover and raises to approx 0.15 around 2500rpm. Also see this voltage at EDIS pin 3 so cable must also be ok.
Do these voltages seem about right (seem rather low to me)?
If this is correct voltage then perhaps I have dodgy EDIS?????

Keith

Runtime display?
Does the runtime display show the correct RPM?
My Megajolt SAW signal shows 0.18V at an idle of 800rpm with 14 degrees dialed in.

Yes - Runtime shows correct rpm
Runtime looks correct so PIP must be ok, I do get a variable voltage on SAW that's not a million miles away from yours so I'll assume MJLJ is OK and source another EDIS and try that.
Thanks for your help - will let you know how I get on.

still no joy....
Have changed EDIS but still no advance seen on strobe.
So in summary....
1.Software runs ok with no error messages
2. Comms seem ok between PC and MJLJ - can read/update config and see "runtime" working correctly
3. Can see an a.c. voltage on the SAW wire at EDIS which increases as rpm rises (readings are below 1v a.c.)
4. Replacement EDIS (secondhand) made no difference.
Anyone got some ideas where I go from here (other than give up and go back to dizzy!!

Success at last!!!!!!!
Got there in the end. Had a general poke around the solder joints of the SAW connector and R1 resistor (which had a little less solder than others) and all of a sudden advance was working, but then dropped back to 10deg.
Dabbed a little dab-ette of solder on them and all now ok.
I guess even Brent is allowed the occasional mistake !!!

Glad you found it. I guess I
Glad you found it. I guess I should have been a bit more specific as I thought the difference between 0.05V and 0.18V was significant, and warranted further investigation.
Well- I am embarrassed. I do
Well- I am embarrassed. I do triple check these things (really do) before shipping so I am very suprised you experienced a problem.
You have been very patient- I hope things go absolutely smooth from now on!
Let me know if you run into any other problems!
