02 BMW M3 - OBD2 Legacy or OBD/CAN cable?

I know the legacy cable is for all vehicles the older than 2007.

BUT: The e46 M3 stock ECU does have CAN support. Does this mean I can/should use the OBD/CAN cable for my RCPmk3? or should i still use the legacy cable?

As far as I understand, there are no CAN wires in the OBD connector. You can use this cable (or create your own) and directions to connect to the CANBUS
