VR sensor signal near alternators

Post by ckenyon »

I was reading the Electromotive HPX install guide (similar ignition concept) and they cautioned mounting their VR sensor near magnetic field sources such alternators and electric motors. They also required the teeth on the 36-1 wheel to be at least a 1/2" from other steel parts (such as the rest of the harmonic dampner/pulley. Comments from successful installers? Also, any other source than trigger-wheels.com for 8.25" trigger wheels?

How near is near

Post by Oliver Sedlacek »

How near is near when it comes to alternators? I can't think of any engine installation where it could really be a problem. As for the pulley and damper, my timing wheel is right up against the pulley and it doesn't cause any problems. See http://community.webshots.com/album/187745001srPbmU
for photos including a trace of the VR signal.

One way to tell for sure is to put an oscilloscope on the VR sensor while the engine is running and see how much interference you do get.

Likewise with me, my timing wheel is right up against the primary pulley, no problems with the signal.
