turbo VW bug options

Post by volkaholic »

I've got a turbo 2 liter in a VW Karmann Ghia with a weber side draft. I was running dual spark plugs using an old airplane dual distributor. It ran fine for years then the distributor bit the dust. I searched this site & it looks very promising. Here are my questions I could not find answers to on the site.

Can the MAP sensor handle boost? I'm looking at 10 psi max. If not, what MAP sensor would I need & how extensive would the modifications be to using it.

Since I am running dual spark plugs, I assume I would use the program for 4 cylinders, but run 4 dual coils, for a total of 8 plugs. 1 dual coil then feeds 2 plugs on the same cylinder.

Yes, the MAP sensor can read

Yes, the MAP sensor can read up to 250 KPa, which is about 21 PSI of boost.

For the coils- it's up to what the Ford EDIS module can handle. If you put two coils in parallel on the coil drive output of the EDIS-4 module it may not be able to handle the increased current load.

An EDIS 8 *might* work, but you would have to make sure the correct coil outputs are connected to the right spark plugs. Others here may be able to comment with more accuracy.
