Parts is Parts

Post by Paratime »

Hello all,

I have just returned from my local pull it yourself yard. There were about a dozen EDIS Escorts, most of which still had their parts. Anyone interested in getting these, take a set of torx bits (not the whole screw driver type) the crank angle sensor is held on with torx, and is really close to the side of the engine compartment. Removing them with needle nose vise grips was a pain. They will come out easily with a short bit, and a 1/4 inch wrench to turn it. The toothed wheel is VERY firmly pressed to the balancer, but the balancer is not pressed on the crank, so a gear puller set is not necessary.

However, I found a single 96 Tbird V6 in the yard, and it's crank wheel is attached to the balancer with 4 bolts. I got this one instead, since the wheel now comes with convenient mounting. Anyone ordering this from ford, the V6 is the way to go! FYI- this balancer IS pressed on, so it was a good thing I brought the puller set anyway. There were four V8 EDIS cars, all with the entire EDIS system removed. The crank wheel from the V8 is located inside the engine, behind the timing chain cover. Since these have twin overhead cams, getting this part seemed to be more trouble than it was worth, seeing as I already had the nifty easily removed V6 wheel.

Prices:
The coil packs (4 plugs per) cost 24.99

The cashier had no idea what the crank wheel was, since it was off the balancer. Because it was a half hour to close, he also didn't care, he sold it as "miscellaneous gear" 3.99

The crank sensor (Switches, misc) was 5.99,

And the EDIS module was 12.99.
All electronics I took with a good six inches of wire and the connector.

Since I won't need the 4 cyl EDIS module (just took it for the connector and to hook up and test the box before installation) I will be happy to sell it for what I paid plus the actual shipping if anyone needs it. There are quite a few at the yard. I can get the 4 cyl balancers too, but they are 5-10? pounds and will be a bit pricey in postage, I'd think. I don't know if the coils are worth it, since you can buy them new for 60 bucks. The coil connectors were quite plentiful.

Paratime, I would be interested in buying a coilpack connector and coil from you if you are willing to sell me one. I went to the local u-pull it here in phoenix. I had to drive 40 minutes to get there. The vr sensor, edis unit and trigger wheel cost me $42.00! Without the coil!!! Which I forgot to buy.. You won't find any bargains at the U-Pull-It in Phoenix. Problem is, you have to pull the part and take it to the counter before they will tell you the price! <br> Can you email me off-list? info(at)grabercars.com .
