Megajolt hangs up while saving

I've got a letter from Dmitriy Krikun, Russia. He've assembeled a Megajolt, but using cheaper and more available Russian parts. We can safely assume he knows his stuff, but possible that he made a mistake. Here is the problem:

He connects Megajolt to PC, doesn't matter with which tuner, as soon as he tries to UPDATE CONFIG there is no more communications between Megajolt and PC. He then sticks another KX8 into it and everything works just fine. (until the next UPDATE CONFIG) What could be the problem?


edit: he's burning S19 directly onto an empty chip. Could that be a problem?

He just wrote me back, the problem was that he was burning mjlJunior.s19 directly onto chip. Solution was to burn hc08sprg-kx8.abs.s19 first, then upload mjlJunior.s19 firmware using bootloader updater software.

I asked him to give me a RE with a list of Russian parts used. Megajolt has officially gone global.

The megajolt firmware relys on the Flash Eprom write subroutines which are part of the bootloader. That's why it doesn't work if you don't program the bootloader into the chip.

All components on Motorola us have, no possibility to bring generator, happened to to change him(it) on microcircuit 555LN1 analogue 74hc04 and simple quartz

That's correct. The bootloader is loaded first, then the bootloader loads the MJLJ firmware. That's how field upgrades are made possible.

Glad he has it working! He should post pictures of his setup!
