Relay wiring?

Searched the forums and can't find my question.

Using one of the programmable outputs to switch a relay to activate VVT at 4000rpm....

Is it safe the wire the output to pin 86 with a +12v on 85? Will this switch the relay OK? Does it matter what type of relay? (rating)

That should be fine, and any automotive relay is suitable - at least you're not trying to run your fan direct off the output
