after the success of my hotrod, and my dads hotrod ( i must post pics, now we've sold it!!!) next on the list was the Jensen!
now, when we got the car it was running like a pig, the previous owner had slapped on a new holley carb ( but not set anything up, floats, etc) and a mallory dizzy. now we went through it, sorting the carb, inlet manifold, new cam ( as number 1 exhaust lobe was completely, and i mean completely, wiped out) but despite all this when it was all back together the engine was still running like a pig over 3500rpm...
enter MJLJ.. as the front end was all apart anyway for the cam change, we fitted the trigger wheel and sensor...

we arranged the coils packs on the pad that did support the air con, but as this needed a major overhaul, and never worked anyway, it was used to mount the coils! and it made the cableing of the plug leads nice and neat!

Needless to say the engine runs as sweet as can be, and all the 3500+rpm misfire has been dialed out (we assume the mallory was giving stupid amounts of advance when all in, and no matter how much we tried, we couldn't lose it! and the dizzy had been played with, so no idea what it was set up to!)
this was the first time i'd used the surface mount version4, and i must say it went together quicker than the version3!!!! now trying to resist the temptation to put a version 4 in the hotrod!!!!

i'll see what i can sort out, but just remember each individual coil feeds to 2 plugs, and on a v8 they (typically) feed one on each bank. the plug pairs can be switched about on the coil and it makes no difference to the operation, but makes the wiring a whole lot easier... for example a ignition order 18436572 for a rover v8 gives
coil A 1 6
coil B 8 5
coil C 4 7
coil D 3 2
each coil feeds an odd and even cylinder, so can be rearranged thus (altering the wire pllacements on coil B and C)
coil A 1 6
coil B 5 8
coil C 7 4
coil D 3 2
so all the odd are on the same side! much neater for the wiring!
