Tuning Aid

Post by BRUCEROE »

Just started trying to map out my 20 hp odd fire twin. I have a small filter chamber to help smooth out manifold vacuum ripples, but I think a larger one may be better. First approach here is to optimize no load advance, looking for maximum vacuum /rpm at a given throttle setting. I will probably need to disable the tractor governor, which tends to distort things. Later, logging will attempt to optimize advance under load.

Perhaps a knob which could give a + or - up to 10 degree shift would be handy, now and for varying weather (120 degree F range) later. Just quickly twist it and see what happens. Then go back & optimize the table. This could easily be done using the AUXILIARY INPUT & ADVANCE CORRECTIONS. I plan to use this to give a quick table shift. The problem with adjusting a point, is the engine then may "slide off" that spot into one that hasn't been updated yet. Moving the surrounding spots involves 9 locations. Just moving the whole table temporarily might be easier. Bruce Roe
