Drilled 36-1 pattern: Minimum size of bore diameter?

Post by Dominik »

Hello everybody,

I am planning to install a megajoilt ignition into my Ford Crossflow powered Super Seven. For the trigger wheel I considered different solutions.
The most interesting and cheapest way seems to be the drilling of my existing pulley as shown in this example:

This is my pulley:

As you can see, the rim of the pulley is quite thin. Therefore my question: Is there a minimum size of the holes to ensure reliable detection?
Has anyone of you guys made experiences with this type of triggering? Does it work properly?

Greetings from germany,
Dominik.

Yes, drilled pulleys can work. If you have the steel xflow pulley as per the picture then there really isn't enough "meat" in it to do the job.

Fortunately the solution for the crossflow is really simple as we stock an engine-specific trigger-wheel kit for the crossflow:

Hello cng1, thanks for your answer. It's a pity that it won't wirk with the holes. I allready know your crossflow-solution and actually I will order my kit and all accessories from your shop.

But to be honest, I don't like the look of this massive wheel. In that case I would prefer a welded solution. I guess the 4,5'' "Ring gear style trigger wheel" would suit to my one piece pulley, wouldn't it?

Greetings,
Dominik.

P.S.: What is the difference between your 1st and 2nd generation coilpack? I'd like to keep my old Magnecor spark plug leads, so I need a coilpack without "barbs". Which generation is the right one?

"massive" wheel? the xflow one is about as small as you'll find in an automotive application. If you like I'll take a picture for you of six of them sat on top of one of our properly massive wheels with room to spare.

A welded ring gear style wheel is an alternative but it's more work. If your pulley is like the ones we stock then they are hard-anodised so you'll need to strip that off before you can weld, you'll also have to take care to get it all lined up correctly. Our xflow kit meanwhile is self-centering using the supplied crank-bolt, so is guaranteed to sit correctly.

Unfortunately the answer is neither is the right coilpack to suit your current leads. That is why we supply a new set of 8mm silicone leads with our comprehensive "Complete Megajolt package for Ford xflow engines".

OK, "massive" is the wrong expression. I rather meant "plane"

That wouldn't bother me. And I still want to tinker a bit and not only take it out of the box ;-)

Damn!

This kit looks pretty interesting. But there are two parts in it, I really don't need (marked red). Would it be possible to send me a quotation for a "slimmed down" package, which includes the following parts:

* Megajolt V4 ECU
* New coil pack and connector
* New crank sensor and connector
* Refurbished EDIS Ignition module
* Universal crank sensor bracket
* Coil pack bracket

* Loom kit
* Univeral 36-1 trigger wheel
* Set of 8mm silicone spark plug leads
* Complete with software and mapping cable to allow you to tune the system and maps for a wide range of engines
+
* Hard rev limiter

Thanks in advance!
