Coilpack - Gen 2 ok?

Post by ian2000t »

Hi guys, is it ok to use a 2nd Gen Ford coil pack - Motorcraft part no. 988f 12029 ac (like this - http://langemachinery.en.alibaba.com/pr ... 9_AD_.html ) ?

Mine is currently working on a 1st Gen at the moment, with the strange ends on the plug leads - so I'm using an old set of Fiesta leads from the scrappies.

I already have a set of Magnecore leads that I had on the Dizzy setup on my Mini, which are a perfect length to go to the coilpack, but won't fit a 1st Gen coilpack. I think the 2nd Gen use standard connectors on the leads though, so I could use them.... and it's cheaper to buy a 2nd Gen coilpack than to buy a set of Fiesta Magnecore leads for the 1st Gen coilpack!!

That should work just fine. I cannot say if we've found a coil pack the EDIS module doesn't 'like'- anyone else?

Cheers, will give it a go and let you know how I get on! Hopefully can use my Magnecores then instead of the falling apart Fiesta leads I rifled from 3 different cars at the scappies!!

Why buy magnecor leads. We've got 8mm silicone leads to fit 1st gen coils for under 25 pounds per set! See our website www.trigger-wheels.com for more details.

He already has Magnecor leads to use, so no need to buy :)

It's a toss up between bodging a set of standard magnecors into a 2nd gen coilpack (they'll fit after a fashion but not what you'd call well and probably not without some modification) which would necessitate buying a coilpack or using the coilpack he has and buying some similar quality leads for a fraction of the price of the magnecors. I know which I would go for but it's a free world and we keep both leads and coil packs in stock in case they're needed.

Ok, cheers for the link. However, the leads on Trigger wheels look far too long for my application, plus I already have Magnecore 8.5mm leads, and Magnecore's also have a 10 year warranty... so for the £5 I've paid for a 2nd Gen coilpack I'd rather give it a try than spend £25 on those leads.

For future reference we can mix and match lead lengths so if you need short ones or long ones we can generally put together something to suit.

Just to follow this up - Gen 2 coilpack works a treat, looks better aswell.

Also, Magnacore leads work fine, just have squeeze the ends in to fit tight on the smaller posts in the Gen 2 coilpack.

Has been running a month or 2 now and runs sweeter with no problems!
