Iv had a look about the forum and you guys definatly seem like you know your stuff.
Now my project is slightly different to other ones and i havent seen it done yet (let me know if you have).
I have a Ford Fiesta Zetec S with a Ford Puma 1.7 VVT engine in it. To add to that i have put a set of twin carbs on it. I used twin 45 DCOEs as I owned some at the time, these are currently being down jetted and down choked to the same as 40 DCOEs.
I also have an MJ running this set up using the TPS off an old escort.
Iv had alot of problems with this car and constant misfiring and flat spots. Im not skilled enough to set it up myself and it doesnt help when i do not have a rev counter to go through on the MJ software (to help setting up obviously).
This is where i pleed for help hehe. Basically i need help find out where to get a rev counter sensor from or how to make one work?
Also does anyone have any ignition maps that may be close to this setup?
What size jets and chokes do you think i should down grade to?
Should i upgrade my firmware from V3 3.0.0 to V3 3.2.1 ??
Can i get VVT on the puma engine working with the MJ or do i need an OMEX 200?
I would appreciate all the help i can get as this project has been going on too long.

To give you some answers......

You should be able to run a tacho from either the MJ "tach_out", or the EDIS CTO (clean tach out) signals, there is info elsewhere on the site about this.
Firmware wise, the latest (3.2.1) is advisable, along with the corresponding version of the PC configurator program. This gives, for one thing, noise filtering on the PIP line.

If the VVT is engaged just by supplying current to a solenoid at a certain rpm (like what is being suggested on another forum you're on ) then you can do it via one of the programmable outputs on the MJLJ...
...but note that these outputs are relatively low current and switch the earth, not the positive supply. So you would need the programmable out to drive a relay (coil current quite a bit less than 500mA) that switched the voltage onto the solenoid.
If the VVT control is more analogue i.e. variable cam timing as rpm change, then it's potentially more difficult.
The bottom line is finding out how the VVT actually works...

im guessing your off ZSOC martin. i did have a quick look into VVT but im not mechanically minded so i would have no idea. a friend said i may be able to do it with the 'shift light' function or something.
As far as my understanding goes on VVT is that at a certain RPM the timing of a or both cam/cams is advanced to give better power at higher RPM. Please do correct me if im wrong but that is from what i have read.
Im going to get the engine running aswell as it can before i will atempt the VVT as it sounds alot harder to get working than i imagined

ok so iv loaded V3.2.1 onto my laptop. i then went to put it on the Megajolt and the problems began
i got so far that is says 'Waiting for HC08 reset ACK . . .'
which i assume is when you connect the power to it ? ? ? ?
But with or without power it just seems to sit there and do nothing? ? ?
Also the first time i did it it would only run on COM3 and the second time its ran on COM1 ? ?
Do i have the wrong COM port set up or is there problem with power getting to the Megajolt?
I also unplugged the Megajolt and drove down the road.....nothing changed it still drove like a bag of Sh!*

Also on Dave Andrews' site is this article on ignition timing: http://hometown.aol.com/dvandrews/timing.htm. I used this info along with maps published on this site to start me off with an Xflow map. Also, it shows that a Xflow map will have more maximum advance than a Zetec map, due to the combustion chamber design and spark plug position.

From your photo above it looks like your carbs are bolted solidly to the inlet manfold - if so, this is not good as you'll get fuel foaming, giving poor running; instead use something like http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Weber-DCOE-DellOr ... dZViewItem to mount them.

does the actually hardware go wrong very often as it seems i must have a dodgy box?
Regarding your comms problem, the above implies you are using a USB -> serial adapter? Have you been able to talk to the MJ with the v3.0.0 configurator? im not using usb to serial, im just using standard serial on an old laptop. it may be a problem with the COM port as it says the 'waiting h8' etc when i put COM1 or COM3
i couldnt talk to the MJ with V3.0.0 either (not that im aware anyway)
could it be the laptop? how do i choose the COM port?
