Immobiliser.

Post by luke6040 »

Hey,

I don’t really know what I’m on about but would there be a way to make a sort of immobiliser by cutting a wire and putting a key switch in, or a more high tech way. Maybe even an idea for the next version. Again I know nothing about wiring and only just getting my head around megajolt, so I might be talking total nonsense.

Luke.

from my understanding what you have suggested would need to be ont to the power wire on the edis, as even if the mjl has no power the edis will supply 10 degrees of advance (limp home mode) thus allow the scum to still drive off, albiet not under full steam....

Yep - cutting power to the EDIS is the best way of making a simple immobiliser.

In the good old days, walking away with the rotor arm in your pocket was a good, if slightly inconvenient and oily way, but that's no good now!

Clearly, an immoblizier strategy is merely a deterrent, but can be an effective one if it's layered. For example, multiple hidden switches to disable various aspects of the engine. As an example: power to EDIS coil, fuel pump, etc.

With the dual map option and rev limiter module.

Just flash with a map with zero degree of advance. And the rev limter set to 500 rpm. ;)

Before leaving the car, switch to this map with a hidden switch.

Or

Fit a switch to the coil unit power.

that duel map idea is really good, could evan maybe use a key switch fitted into the megajolt box instead of a switch might evan look a bit neater than a switch sticking out.

A key switch will be more secure I suppose - but then YOU need two keys to start your car, and you have to make the MJLJ reasonably accessible (which most people don't) and it might all become a bit of a pain over time.

A relatively well-hidden toggle switch seems a much better idea to me....but YMMV

That might make it a little obvious what it is for.
How about a reed switch and a magnet to trigger it.

Could be anywhere in the car, but beside the ignition switch with a magnetic key/keyring to trigger it.
