Might help you to know that the charting stuff for M$ Excel works fine in Open Office v2 which is available as a freeware download.

..or even use...
http://sheet.zoho.com/excelviewer.do

...which allows you to see Excel spreadsheets online without any downloads....

Didn't think it supported charts and I'm sure it doesn't allow a user to 'fiddle'.
The M$ Excel Viewer product is better even if it still means a download but again the user can't 'fiddle'.
But then I don't even use an M$ OS unless I really have to!

Have a look at the Monthly Sales example on...

Certainly does do charts!

All it needs is a Zoho registered user to design, save and share a sheet that will chart a MJLJ log file and we're away!

Another vote for Open Office - I use it all the time, and it's free.

Open Office is a compelling alternative to the MS Office. The charting wizard will let you produce a graph against the CSV data produced by the Configuration Software.

You also asked how to generate the log data- see this section of our Operation Gude:

This chart was made using the open office spreadsheet, using MJ log data (not a lot of fiddling required):
