PC serial problem.

Post by stefz »

Hi, I'm having big trouble trying to get the board to connect to the PC.

The software loads up and displays a message window

'As Error has Ocured'
Read buffer length not correct: was 1; expected 128

This only happens when I select COM1 or COM3, & also displays 'Error reading configuration' the bottom of the app window.

Whats gone wrong..

Anyone with ideas as to why it would not connect to the board please help me out. my e-mail is shadowpenguin12345@yahoo.com . Also, anyone with a 4AGE powered AE86 corolla plese tell me what power sources you used.

Had the same problem

I had the same problem and eventually tracked it down to a duff serial cable, the one i am using now is a null modem cable off an old external modem, works a treat

Will a straight serial cable

Post by Todd Charles »

Will a straight serial cable work proper or do I need a null modem style? I finally got the configurator to work proper then I fought for 2 days wrestling my serial port away from my PALM software and now it wont communicte with my board. I have tried using the Hyperterminal according to the directions with no luck either. My cable OHMS out OK and it is the same cable I use for my Mega Squirt so I am sure it is OK. Any other ideas?

So it was working, then stopped after something changed regarding your Palm software?

it takes a standard serial cable, the same one that would work with the megasquirt.

You want to make sure nothing is controlling that serial port (like the palm software), otherwise other programs won't be able to use it.

No, it never has communicated

No, it never has communicated with the board. It took me a while to get the PALM software to let go of my serial port but I did and this was evident thru Hyperterminal. I still get no response from the board thru Hyperterminal or configurator. Is it possible my processor got wiped or was never programmed? Do you know of any way to check this?

Todd

Edit: Please disregard this post due to my ignorance about powering up the board for communications! Thanks
